Meg Cabot has given us another excellent novel. If you aren’t sure who Meg is, she is known for the Princess Diaries series. Other book series she has written are The Heather Wells Mystery Series and Insatiable. I have enjoyed Meg over the years and when I saw Enchanted to Meet You was coming out I became thrilled. I pre-ordered the book and was given a digital Advanced Reading Copy. This review is from my reading of the ARC.
The story starts with Jessica explaining how she became a witch. It began because her father told Jessica that her mother was magic. That sentence sent Jess on her way to search out how to find her magic. Her parents owned an antique shop and an ancient book showed up in her senior year of high school and Jess was drawn to it. She begged to keep the book. The book was Book of Useful Household Tips by Goody Fletcher. She found that book to help her work with her magic. Her best friend Dina also awakened her magic around the same time. During High School, Jess wanted a boy, Billy Walker, to take her to Homecoming. Another girl, Rosalie Hopkins, wanted the same thing. Jess thought that Billy wasn’t interested in her so she decided to try a love spell on him to get him to take her. The spell seemed to work and they became an item. Rosalie, who was also a witch, could control the weather. She was angry and lashed out. Eventually, Jess and Billy broke up.
As an adult, Jess opened a clothing shop called Enchantments. Her magic gave her the ability to make clothing flattering to everyone. One day, an extremely attractive man showed up while she was helping in her store. She thought of him as Hot Doorway Guy. She was worried he came from the World Council of Witches. She never was accepted but if they show up, it can signal something bad. Hot Doorway Guy’s name is Derrick Winters. He shows up and predicts some intense things that are supposed to happen to the town and wants Jessica’s help. As the story continues, the events that are supposed to transpire continue to get more and more extreme

I am in LOVE with this book. I could not put it down. Some of the chapters are specifically told by Jessica and others by Derrick. Some of Jessica’s chapters are from what happened in High School. It gives an insight into what happened as she became a stronger witch. Meg’s ability to connect the different timelines almost seamlessly is fantastic. I appreciate it. I have recently begun to read books told from different points of view and it is a great way to tell a story. We learn where each of the main characters comes from and how they became who they are. I found myself hoping that Billy had a little more character growth, but I still liked how she explained him. I don’t want to go into much more detail, but she did give him an interesting story.
Go pick this up! It came out on Sept. 5, 2023!
Until the next book!
